Our Dock

Fish, Water Activities, Sight See or just relax.

You can fish off our dock. We have all the fishing equipment you need.

You will catch

· Snook: A premier inshore game fish that loves to hide under docks, particularly around lighted docks at night, ambush prey in the mangroves, or cruise near docks during tidal changes.

· Redfish (Red Drum): Frequently found cruising around dock pilings and in shallow, grassy water near the shoreline.

· Sheepshead: Very common around docks, especially in the winter (when "smoke is on the water"). They love to eat barnacles off your dock pilings.

· Mangrove Snapper: Abundant in canal systems and around structures.

· Spotted Sea Trout: Found in the surrounding bays and near shorelines, especially during warmer months.

· Flounder: A "lazy predator" that buries itself in the mud or sand near your dock.

· Black Drum: Often found hanging around dock pilings.

· Sharks: Bonnethead and smaller sharks are common in the shallow waters of the bay.

· Other species: You may also catch Ladyfish, Catfish, Spanish Mackerel, and in the summer, occasionally Tarpon

Fishing Tips

  • Time of Day: Early morning, late evening, or night (especially with a dock light) are best for Snook.
  • Tide: Fishing during a moving tide (incoming or outgoing) is generally more productive than slack tide, as it brings food to the fish.
  • Best Bait: Live shrimp is the most versatile bait for all the species mentioned above. Pinfish, finger mullet, and white baits are also highly effective for larger snook and redfish.
  • Technique: Target the shade around your dock pilings, especially during the day. If the water is deep, fish near the bottom, especially for snapper and grouper.

Important Notes

  • Seasonality: While many fish are year-round, you'll see a surge in sheepshead in the winter, and more action from snook, tarpon, and trout in the spring and summer.
  • Regulations: Make sure you have a Florida saltwater fishing license and are aware of the size and bag limits for each species, as they change frequently.
  • Nearby Access: The Apollo Beach Nature Preserve is just a short trip away for shore fishing.

You will see

  • Manatees (Sea Cows): The nearby TECO Manatee Viewing Center is a major sanctuary.      They are very common in the canals during cooler months.
  • Dolphins: Frequently spotted in Tampa Bay and surrounding canals.
  • Fish: Tarpon,      mullet, snook, and redfish are common in the shallow, warm waters.
  • Rays: Cownose      rays and stingrays are frequently seen in the bay.
  • Other Wildlife: Blue crabs, horseshoe crabs, and various species of jellyfish.
  • Birds: Herons, egrets, pelicans, and osprey are common in this      residential area.
